Q: Three words which describe your work as a holistic therapist
A: Serene. Healing. Natural.
Q: Tell us the story behind Soma Rituals and how you came to create such aligned and connected offerings for your clients?
A: Soma Rituals was born out of a lifelong interest in natural skincare, holistic therapies, and my own personal journey of healing. After struggling with long term health issues and a variety of skin conditions, I discovered the importance of self care as a way to maintain balance and overall wellbeing.
Despite having a meditation practice for many years, I had often overlooked the importance of physical health and wellness. I came to realise that authentic self-care is an act of self-compassion and I’m passionate about creating space for others to take a moment to reconnect with themselves - to align body, mind and soul in simple rituals that ground, restore and rejuvenate.
Soma is a Sanskrit word for moon and is considered to be the essence of healing energy in Ayurveda. It’s similar to the concept of yin in Chinese Medicine and embodies feminine, lunar energy which is nourishing, loving and nurturing.
Q: Your treatments sound mesmerising, for those reading this who are not yet familiar can you tell us what treatments you offer?
A: I offer holistic facial treatments that are tailored to the individual and designed to nurture your whole being, leaving you looking and feeling deeply rested, and glowing from the inside out.
The unique treatments at Soma Rituals were developed over a long period of time and layer various therapeutic protocols such as facial gua sha, rejuvenating massage and sound healing, combined with the elements of a traditional facial. The result is a deeply relaxing and rejuvenating sensory experience that will help to restore your natural radiance from within.
The Half Moon Facial is a 60-minute treatment, and the Full Moon Facial is a 90-minute treatment. People can also subscribe to the Soma Monthly Ritual which includes a 90-minute customised treatment and wellness consultation, so you can establish your own daily self care ritual and maintain the benefits in between sessions.
Q: What is the best part of your work as a holistic practitioner?
A: Aside from the satisfaction of seeing people leave the treatment room with glowing complexions, or receiving grateful messages from clients about how the sessions have healed their skin complaints – I think the best part of what I do is creating space for others. I love to offer a calm and gentle environment where people can come to unburden themselves, let the mask drop, and be looked after. When I can see that a person has changed state and truly experienced a peaceful moment amidst their busy life, when they have taken a moment to come back to themselves and feel more attuned, confident and relaxed – then I feel that I am offering something really worthwhile.
Q: Aside from skincare, what is your favourite daily ritual?
A: Probably my morning routine – I like to meditate first thing and then have a cup of tea and journal before I start my day. I’ve had a daily meditation practice since I was 16 and it helps me to tune into positive intentions and maintain a calm and balanced attitude, even when things are challenging. I also find that writing first thing in the morning for a few minutes helps me to begin the day feeling creative and clear-minded.
Q: We are so intrigued by your use of tuning fork therapies in your treatments, can you tell us a little bit about this?
A: I am trained in Acutonics® Tuning Fork therapy which is a unique system of sound healing - an energy-based, non-invasive approach rooted in Chinese Medicine. The tuning forks are applied to specific acupuncture points on the body to access the Meridian and Chakra energy systems. They are used to correct imbalances, stimulate healing and promote wellness.
As well as their healing benefits, tuning forks have powerful rejuvenating effects. When applied to the face, the vibrations work to tone, lift and invigorate - providing results similar to facial acupuncture or micro-current.
Q: What inspires you?
A: Having grown up in the Lake District, I’m a country girl at heart and always return to nature for rejuvenation and inspiration. I also love going on adventures and learning from various cultures and landscapes - exposing myself to different and new perspectives always inspires.
I also find inspiration in simple living, genuine connections and moments of stillness.
Q: What was it that drew you to want to work with the d'still collection?
I had searched for a long time for a skincare collection that would integrate well with the treatments, and I really wanted to support and work with a local UK-based brand. So I was thrilled when I found d’still! The collection was everything that I was looking for – 100% natural, luxurious, small batch, effective and sensorial.
When I discovered more about Ula’s approach and the beautiful intention behind this brand – in not only promoting skincare as self care, but also encouraging a connection with nature, in slowing down and using these daily rituals as a way to reconnect with ourselves – this all completely aligned with my own values. The d’still collection compliments our holistic facials perfectly and really takes the experience to another level.
Q: Which d'still product has become your favourite?
A: The Calming Cleansing Balm has become part of my daily evening routine and one that I truly look forward to at the end of a busy day. I like to do an initial cleanse to take off my makeup and then apply a second cleanse, leaving it on for at least 15 minutes before removing with a steamy facial cloth. I love the luxurious, silky texture of this balm and find it works wonderfully as a treatment mask. The therapeutic aroma is deeply calming and encourages me to slow down and take time to self massage and be present, while leaving my skin feeling soft and nourished.
Q: Favourite skincare ingredient?
A: I’m pretty obsessed with facial oils and have been using the same rosehip seed oil for the past 15 years to nourish my dry skin. For a long time, I was constricted to using very basic one-ingredient oils because more potent formulas would often have at least one ingredient that wouldn’t suit my sensitive skin. Now in my mid-30s I’m looking for a facial oil that packs a bit more of a punch in terms of benefits, so the Rejuvenating Botanical Serum has become my facial oil of choice. It’s packed full of potent ingredients, feels lightweight and a little goes a long way. I like to apply the serum to completely wet skin after cleansing and massage until absorbed. This is my best tip for hydrating dry skin and when you use high quality natural skincare you can really afford to massively simplify your routine to great effect.
Q: Where do you hold your beautiful treatments? And where can we book?
A: Our holistic facials are offered from a peaceful treatment room in Marylebone, central London. People can book directly on the website or contact me. We take payments online and in the treatment room, where you can also purchase the d’still collection after you have experienced them during the session.
